Video to prompt tools, compared.

Five ways to turn a reference clip into a prompt you can reuse.

Each one reads a video and writes down the subject, camera movement, lighting and style, so you can recreate a similar shot in Veo, Kling, Seedance or Runway. They differ in what they accept, what they send to the server and what they charge.

How to choose.

01

Start from your source

A file on your computer works everywhere. For a YouTube link use VideoToPrompt.app; for Douyin, Xiaohongshu or Bilibili use PromptVV. Only analyze footage you have the right to use.

02

Count the cuts

One continuous shot gives the cleanest prompt. If the clip has many cuts, trim it first or use a multi-scene or shot-by-shot tool.

03

Match the output to the model

A paragraph is fine for most generators. If you are scripting or batching, JSON from VideoInPrompt or Reprompt is easier to edit field by field.

04

Decide what you will upload

Some tools receive the whole video; Reprompt says it sends only four frames. Read the privacy policy before uploading client or personal footage.

VideoToPrompt or VideoToPrompt.app?

They are two separate products. videotoprompt.com takes a clip or an image and lets you choose the output language; videotoprompt.app adds YouTube links and a multi-scene mode. Each has its own pricing and account.

Questions, answered.

What is a video to prompt tool?

It analyzes a reference video and writes a text prompt describing the subject, action, camera movement, lighting and style. You paste that prompt into an AI video generator such as Veo, Kling, Seedance or Runway to make a similar shot.

Is there a free video to prompt tool?

Reprompt Video to Prompt is free and needs no account, with daily and pace limits. VideoToPrompt, VideoToPrompt.app and VideoInPrompt offer free access or starting credits alongside paid plans; PromptVV includes trial time after registration.

Can I paste a YouTube or TikTok link?

VideoToPrompt.app accepts YouTube URLs, VideoInPrompt supports some public links, and PromptVV supports Douyin, Xiaohongshu and Bilibili. For other sites, upload a file you have the right to use.

Will the prompt recreate the video exactly?

No. The prompt is a starting point. Exact timing, sound, faces and fine motion are rarely captured, so expect to edit the prompt and generate a few times.

Which option uploads the least data?

According to Reprompt, its tool extracts four frames in your browser and sends only those images, not the video file. The other tools receive the uploaded video; check each privacy policy.
